Lucy Saunders visit

Lucy Saunders, Public Health Specialist – Transport & Public Realm, Transport for London is the 2018 keynote speaker for the 2WALKandCYCLE conference, which takes place from 30 July – 1 August.  Lucy developed the Healthy Streets Approach, a fresh approach to planning, designing and managing our towns and cities. It addresses the big challenges we face as a society while improving the things that really matter to us all day-to-day.

Lucy currently leads the integration of transport and public health in London, supporting Transport for London (TfL), boroughs and advocacy organisations. Lucy works across both the Greater London Authority and TfL embedding the Healthy Streets Approach in policy and practice. In 2014, TfL became the first transport authority in the world to publish a Health Action Plan, Lucy wrote and lead the plan’s three-year implementation.

Maximising Quality through Design Course

Quality is at the core of engineering design, but so is ensuring your designs meet health and safety requirements and good practice. If you’re looking to strengthen your techniques and tools to keep you at the forefront, then this course is for you.

This one-day course is designed for the solo operator or owner of a SME design consultancy, micro engineering businesses delivering design, advice and support services

Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements and properly assessing key risks involved in a design can be a taxing exercise for smaller businesses. We’ve developed this course to help identify ways to streamline the process.

Learning Outcomes

This course will provide you with:

  • three key steps to building an effective integrated management system for your small business
  • an introduction to the new structure of ISO management systems standards
  • an understanding of the key requirements of the ISO 9001/14001/45001 standards for suppliers of design services
  • how to apply risk-based thinking to small projects


Presenter Information

Michael Voss has been involved in the quality field for over 30 years, including five years as a business improvement manager at one of New Zealand’s most successful innovative export companies PEC. He has operated his own small consultancy,, since 1999 providing business excellence, management system advice and training to a wide range of organisations and industries throughout the country.

Michael also works overseas, most recently with the Asian Productivity Organisation and Fiji National University, bringing a diverse perspective to any course he runs.
