Te Kaha Surrounding Streets – Walkabout

Te Kaha Surrounding Streets – project overview and walking tour

The Transportation Group, Canterbury Branch is pleased to present this upcoming walking tour event at the Te Kaha stadium surrounding streets. The event will include speakers from the construction team, Isaac Construction Ltd and Lucas Haining.

This event will highlight the complexity of delivering these upgrades for the transport and water infrastructure, urban design, works staging, stakeholders, integration with the Te Kaha stadium site, and the outcomes achieved.

More project information is available here: Te Kaha surrounding streets : Christchurch City Council

Christchurch’s South-East Central neighbourhood will soon hold the most modern, state-of-the-art, stadium in the southern hemisphere. We need to upgrade the surrounding streets so that they’re prepared for the increased activity the area will experience when One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha opens in April 2026.

The Te Kaha Surrounding Streets package of works covers a range of upgrades to the transport and water infrastructure in the streets around the area. The project includes widening footpaths, slower speed limits, landscaping, pedestrian crossings, changing the travel direction of some streets, and upgrades to the water infrastructure. Work is underway and will be completed in 2025.

Canterbury – SH75 Halswell Road bus route improvements

Canterbury – SH75 Halswell Road bus route improvements

We welcome all Transportation Group members and their colleagues.

This event will showcase the improved Route 7 Halswell leg, with an optional bus trip to experience firsthand the increased service frequency of 10 minutes, and see the SH75 Halswell Road improvements currently under construction. As more context, here’s a recent media update from ECan. The change to Route 7 is part of a larger collaborative project to improve public transport that includes additional infrastructure delivered by ECan and their partners Christchurch City Council and NZTA. This includes 10 bus stop upgrades, a new bus parking space and continuous bus priority lanes on Halswell Road between Dunbars Road and Moorhouse Avenue.

Unless travelling there directly, please meet in the Central Bus interchange at 4:30pm, at Platform D to catch the Route 7 bus to Halswell at 4:40pm.

Please have the cash or your MetroCard with you to ride the bus with us! Fares are $4 cash or $2 with a MetroCard.  View the new Route 7 timetable. In Halswell, we will disembark at the stop on Nicholls Road (“Halswell Shops”) and head across Halswell Road to the Te Hāpua Service Centre, Piharau Room, for a presentation from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. (You are also welcome to travel directly and meet us at the Te Hāpua Service Centre.) Then we will head down the road to The Old Vicarage for networking with drinks and nibbles. Most dietary needs should be met but, please let us know if you have particular needs.

We look forward to seeing you there!
